Alaska (2011-2012)
Trained a team of two-dozen half-wild racing dogs for the Iditarod by running laps around the base of Mt. Denali.
Talking points: pondering a frozen white aurora borealis; 3-hours of daylight; -40 degrees is -40 degrees regardless of your unit; learning the foreign language of gee and haw; vaccinating sled dog pups; rudimentary moose defense tactics.
Tibet (2009)
Taught English at the Tibetan Home of Hope orphanage for a summer in Amdo, Tibet.
Talking points: learning to make momos and square noodles; attempting to go for a run two wines in at Mt. Everest Base Camp; receiving a gift of tea and Goldschläger from a mountainside farmer and his family.
